Another emotive journey deconstructed. I love this mix, I actually believe it’s the best remix i’ve ever done (closely followed by that Blakai IMO) We take a look at some of the key elements that make this version truly special.
I love the original and wanted to do something with it for my house sets a while back and also just wanted to take you behind the scenes on what I did. This video takes a look at what I did to take the original tune into a more ‘soulful house’ territory.
Sometimes you get really happy with a backing but in one or two places the vocals just don’t match. If you don’t want to change your backing why not change the pitch of the vocal? It’s easily done across the DAWs but I ended up using Melodyne for the job and it came out a treat in the end.
When I saw Fourtet using this technique I was blown away as i’d never seen the approach. I’ve seen many people sample flip but usually it was after chopping the sample up first. This method triggers the sound first THEN you adjust the sample start point. Amazing approach..
I seriously need to finish this remix! It’s got a classic new jersey vibe and deserves to be completed. Anyone in contact with the rights holders? That might incentivize me to get it finalized.
